About Ruben Hernandez, President and Founder
Coldwell Banker Blackstone specializes in residential and real estate investment services throughout Southern California. The firm also actively recruits Veterans of the US Armed Forces as part of its Veterans hiring initiative known as “Boots to Suits.”
Broker and Owner, Ruben Hernandez, has an experienced background working with Veterans when he founded EGA Homes. A company with fundamental principles of loyalty, teamwork, integrity, and mission accomplishment… all lifelong core values reinforced in the United States Marine Corps. This set of principles also serves as the nucleus of EGA Home’s value system and the manner in which each real estate professional in the agency conducts him/herself daily.
Mr. Hernandez grew up in a suburb of Riverside known as Rubidoux where he excelled in various sports, but particularly in football, where he led his division, I team to the playoffs as a starting quarterback. Halfway through his senior year of high school, Ruben enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he could honorably defend his country, the way his father, grandfather and several other family members had before him as part of a family tradition of military service. Mr. Hernandez served in the Gulf War and ultimately completed two overseas deployments, one of which earned him a Navy Achievement medal for saving a life in addition to a Liberation of Kuwait, Liberation of Saudi Arabia, Southwest Asia Service Medal and others.
Following his active duty tour, Mr. Hernandez enrolled at Riverside City College, completing an Associate of Arts degree and successfully transferring to the University of California Riverside where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the A. Gary Anderson School of Management with emphases in Marketing and Operations. Ruben was selected to be the graduation commencement speaker and was accepted into the Golden Key International Honor Society for academic achievement.
Upon graduation from UC Riverside, Mr. Hernandez was actively recruited by numerousFortune 500 companies but ultimately selected General Electric as the company of choice namely because of CEO Jack Welch’s outstanding leadership traits and support of military Veteran employees. Mr. Hernandez quickly excelled through the ranks and subsequently transitioned to Fortunate 100 firm, Merck Pharmaceuticals where he finished his career in corporate America.
During his tenure with Merck, Mr. Hernandez developed an interest in real estate, investing, and Veteran housing. After learning that Veterans of the Armed forces comprised a disproportionately small percentage of homeowners and remembering the Marine Corps code, Semper Fidelis (Latin for “Always Faithful), Mr. Hernandez chose a career change in hopes of assisting Veteran to realize the dream of homeownership. As an entrepreneur, Mr. Hernandez quickly realized that he could channel his corporate experience and robust professional network to create a successful real estate career. After consulting with his wife, Jennifer, he began a career in real estate with the mission of providing sustainable housing opportunities to fellow Veterans. That decision provided the genesis of what would eventually lead to the formulation of EGA Homes.
Since that time, Mr. Hernandez has helped many Veterans realize the dream of home ownership as well as establish VOBs (Veteran Owned Businesses) in hopes of bettering the lives of Veterans everywhere. Mr. Hernandez also helped create one of the top real estate operations in Southern California as a top performing organization. Coldwell Banker Blackstone ranks among the top 27% of offices internationally qualified for 2017.
